February 27 - Back In Form!
Wednesday-Thursday Recap
If you go back to the middle of the day on Saturday, I'd cashed on an amazing 18-of-36 tickets from Wednesday through the 9th on Saturday. Through the rest of the day Saturday I cashed on 1-of-12 to close the day (luckily that win put me in the black for the day); then on Sunday I was an equally "off" 1-for-7 (ironically cashing on the last ticket which AGAIN put me in the black for the day!). Then to start this week, I went 0-for on the day to run my skid after winning 18 of 36, to 2-for-25......YIKES!
I missed on the first FIVE of the day on Thursday to extend the run to 2-for-30, but finally things turned around. Props to me for continuing to believe in my handicapping and for sticking to my betting guns! In the 8th I thought Eternal Ruler looked much the best today. He'd just missed in two straight at this level and he appeared to standout over this field - and he was first off the claim for Michael Maker with a BIG rider upgrade to Javier Castellano. Scored at 3/5 with triple the bet.
Then it was my BET of the Day. And again, considering where I was in my handicapping heading into this bet, even more credit to me. Two solid class fillies were entered in this entry-level allowance going 8 1/2 furlongs. Rosalind had been third in the Grade 2 Pocohontas and second in the Grade 1 Alcibiades before a fast closing third, beaten only 1 1/2 lengths in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies in her last three. So the class drop was huge. Also in the field was bird Maker who second in the Grade 2 Golden Rod in just her third career start. Off a layoff in her last, she was second in the slop - a viable excuse. But both had trainers that were not trustworthy.....Rosalind's was 0-for-13 here and Bird Maker's was 1-for-33! I went with last-out maiden winner In Tune who had scored for Todd Pletcher last out - as my top pick. Today she was trying two turns for the first time and facing winners - graded stakes place runners no less! But I not only put her on top, but made her the "BET of the DAY!" She went right to the front and wired the field, drawing off by widening lengths - note that Rosalind was a struggling third as the 3/2 favorite.
The Pletcher filly paid a nice $6.20 so I cashed for over $60! WHOOOO HOOOOO! Jockey Javier Castellano was on board that one, and then he wired the field in the finale where I doubled the bet on Sapphire Blue! Three for eight on the day - that's more like it - and a nice profit!
