Day 61

Todd Pletcher Pays $7!  Makes My Day

Today I had two longshots run really sharp races, but not good enough to win. In the 2nd race I go exactly what I was hoping for in a blistering early pace - a :44.3 half mile going 7 furlongs......this was a perfect set-up for 3x winner at the distance and my 11/1 runner, Angelofdistinction. She was moving strongly through the turn but flattened out while the front runner kept going to win as the favorite. The other long shot was in the final bet of the day, the 7th on the turf. Alley Oop Oop had been in all stakes races over the last year and a half with the exception of four allowance spots like this which produced two wins and two near misses. Again the pace was hot and he was flying through the turn, but came about six or seven wide on the turn. Continued to run on strongly and at the 16th pole I still thought I had a chance......very close 4th.

But I managed to break even on the day when Todd Pletcher's Elena Strikes was somehow allowed to go off at 5/2 and pay $7.00. She had won convincingly at Monmouth then was a good third, beaten only a length and a half in the Grade 3 Schylerville on Opening Dat at Saratoga. They tried to stretch her out in the Grade 2 Pocohontas at Churchill, but that was a no go. Off since November and returned to a sprint she pressed the pace of the favorite through the turn, then drew off as much, MUCH the best in a daylight score. The $35 winnings made it a break even day to start the week!
