Day 23

BIG UPSET Winner Makes The Day!

In the first selection on the Friday card I had picked Red Brunette because she had won here, at this distance and earned a speed figure as good as the likely favorites....who did NOT like this distance. She went from that win to a stakes event and was less than a length from fourth money; then into an allowance spot where she was still over her head, but like the rest of the field was dusted by a Todd Pletcher runner who was my BEST of the day. The return to the claiming ranks, I thought might just wake her up at a price. Early in the betting she was an amazing 17-1 and I was thrilled. But by the time they entered the gate she was down to 5/1. As the race unfolded she was well back, last in the field. But as the field approached the far turn jockey Joe Bravo had her in top gear. She was gaining ground with every stride and I thought that unless the new leader had another gear she would be tough to withstand through the final furlong. Nope, she was easily best and was long gone. The best news, she paid $13.80 and I was guaranteed to be a winner for the day.

I was surprised in the 7th when Siete C, who was 3/5, didn't go on by my second choice who won at 5/1.....second. Then in my first double bet of the day Dysprosium was loose on the lead for Bill Mott and Joel Rosario. He asked her to accelerate at the top of the far turn.....to soon I thought. Sure enough, he opened up, but in the final 16th he had nothing left and was fourth. Then Mobolize, who was GP Handicapper Ron Nicoletti's "Best" and a single in the Pick-6 loomed boldly but had not late run - 3rd. But, the bottom line was a WINNING DAY! WHOOO HOOOOO!
